  2. Hi Charlee,

It's Leslie here, writing as a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. Goodness there are some amazing plants in the world! Can you imagine watching a plant 'eat' an insect?

Of course, they don't have mouths for 'chewing' the insects, they simply trap them with sticky hair fibers or close over top of them so that the chemicals in the plant can break the insect down. Still, it's rather a creepy thought, isn't it?! It seems like a sci-fi idea that a plant could consume an animal of some sort...

We have Pitcher plants in our wetlands in Ontario, Canada. I've seen them many times with flies trapped inside. And I'm always glad that I'm not a fly!!!

You've done a good job of posting information and photos of the plants you're comparing. I'll point out that Pitcher plants aren't common to British Columbia, actually. British Columbia is one of the provinces in my country, Canada, and it's on our west coast. The Pitcher plants naturally grow on the east coast of North America, in the United States.

For full points in this activity you are asked to list 3 differences and 3 similarities. Do you want to add one more of each to your list?

I can check back to see if you've chosen to do so, for full points.

Meanwhile, I hope you're having a lot of fun today!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
