Day 2 - Activity 3 - Week 4 - Summer Learning Journey

A House is Not a Home
I am interested in fruit - and - nut forests in Tajikistan. This project is to help the environment and the people to not get hungry. FFI id working to conserve these forests with support from, among others, the Darwin fund and the Global Trees Campaign.

  1. Hi Charlee,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog from my home in Canada where it is definitely not the summer! I'm a member of the Summer Learning Journey team and I'm enjoying reading your postings. You've been working very hard at the activities - good for you!

I'm glad that you've taken the time to read about the project to protect the nut and fruit forests in Tajikistan. It's so very important that food sources be protected around the world. There's a tendency for people in different countries to allow land to be built on or for resources to be dug up out of the earth, regardless of whether or not the land is good for food production. Mining for a mineral to make jewellery doesn't make much sense if we don't have enough food for people to eat, does it?

You have so many wonderful fruit farms in your country! And your farmers raise cows and sheep and other crops that are so important - I think that people in your country have the right idea!

What is your favourite fruit or nut to eat? Does your family eat food that is grown locally most of the time? I try to just buy food that is grown in Canada so that I know that it's fresh and that it hasn't had to be flown in from far away, because that would use a lot of jet fuel. We have to be careful as to how we use our fossil fuels around the world, don't we?!

There's a lot to learn about how to live carefully on our planet. I'm glad that you're learning about 'the world around us' through this program this summer.

    Cheers,

    Leslie
